1) Register for KT Pathways.
When you sign up, you will create a unique Knowledge translation (KT) Learning Profile page that will house your resources and assessment results. Click on the 'Assessment Tool' button.
2) Pick your Pathway.
There are three KT Pathways. Knowledge translation involves those who produce, apply, and broker knowledge. Ask yourself which you are called upon to do most, and choose that pathway. If you decide your tasks align with more than one pathway, choose Brokering Knowledge, as those who broker knowledge will take on multiple tasks related to both gathering and applying evidence. Once you’ve chosen a pathway, the assessment tool and resources will be tailored accordingly.
3) Pick a bucket.
KT competencies are grouped into 'buckets'. You can choose to do just the buckets that are most relevant to your work right now or you may choose to complete the entire tool to get a full assessment of your KT competence.
4) Start the assessment.
When you start the Pathway you will be invited to rate yourself on a series of competencies. On each competency you will be given the option to assess yourself as “needs practice”, "knowledgeable but needs practice” or “competent”. If you rate yourself as competent, you will then be invited to rate yourself against a more advanced version of the competency, moving from developmental, to intermediate, to expert. If you have not yet mastered the competency, the system will store this information and you will be directed to the next topic.
5) Get your results and learning resources.
When you complete the tool, you will be provided with a KT learning profile that details current areas of KT strength and areas for professional development. You will then be directed to KT resources that will build your competence: (articles, videos, blogs, websites, templates and/or online reports). Come back and do the tool again later as your skill level increases to find more advanced resources, or go to our Resources page to search on your own.
